Mast Cell Reference

Reference materials and source document summaries for the Confidente project. These are not education content (see Mast Cell Education) — they’re structured reference data and document indexes.

SIGHI Documents

The Swiss Interest Group Histamine Intolerance (SIGHI) publishes the most comprehensive publicly available food compatibility data for histamine-sensitive and MCAS patients. We use two versions:

Food Compatibility List (2024-08-29) — the latest edition. Alphabetical with categories. This is the primary source for the app’s food seed data. See Foods for the extracted data.

Food Compatibility List (2023-04-01) — older edition, also in our uploaded files. Used for cross-referencing; some entries changed between versions (e.g. egg white went from 2→1, alginates went from 2→1).

Elimination Diet Leaflet (2021-11-17) — simplified guide for histamine intolerance (DAO degradation). Explicitly states it is NOT sufficient for MCAS. See SIGHI Elimination Diet Protocol.

Medication Manual Preview (2019-01-03) — table of contents and selected sections. Full manual available to SIGHI members. See SIGHI Medication Manual Summary.

Cookbook Corrigenda (2015, 2020) — corrections to the “Mast-Cell-Friendly and Low-Histamine Cooking” cookbook. Minor corrections; main takeaway is the baking soda measurement (5g/1tsp per 500g flour) and the Tropea onion being well tolerated.

Key Changes Between 2023 and 2024 List Versions

Notable differences spotted:

  • Egg white: 2 → 1 (downgraded from incompatible to moderately compatible)
  • Alginates (E400-E405): 2 → 1 (now “often well tolerated”)
  • Feta cheese: previously unlisted as 1 in older version
  • Camembert: added explicitly in 2024 at score 2
  • Smoked salmon: added explicitly in 2024 at score 2
  • Coconut: changed from 0 to 1 in 2024
  • Lemon juice/concentrate: added as 3 (very poorly tolerated) in 2024
  • Several nashi/Asian pear variants added
  • Kale added at score 1
  • Okra added at score 1
  • Cola drinks: changed from 1 to 2

These changes matter for the app — the seed data should use the 2024 version as authoritative, but tracking version differences could surface interesting patterns about evolving understanding.
